Primary technical support for The Catalog Creator is by e-mail. You can send us a screen shot of the topic in question by pressing the Alt and Print Screen keys (Alt+PrtScn) at the same time. This will save a copy of the current window in memory. Open your e-mail program and press the Control and V keys (Ctrl+V) at the same time, to paste this image into your e-mail message. This will help us provide a solution in in the shortest possible time. We'll normally respond the same day or the following morning. We're on the West Coast and our office hours are 8:30 to 4:30 PST.

Most support issues involve image files that are too large. Photos directly out of a digital camera or scanner are usually 24-bit color and have resolutions of 1200dpi or greater. With these attributes, the files can be several Megabytes each. Some catalog templates use twelve or more images per page and your computer or printer can quickly run out of memory when using images of this size. Also, if your catalog contains thousands of images, it could become too large to distribute electronically, even on a CD-ROM. Catalog software.
In practice, there is little difference in print quality between an image of 2,000Kb and one of only 200Kb. A color-depth of 8-bit and a resolution of 300dpi generally provides the best balance of print quality and memory usage.

When using the "Embedded" option, the preferred file format is bitmap. These images store most efficiently in the database. We recommend Omniformat for quickly and easily converting your images to bitmap format.

When I add a photo, I see only an icon, not the photo itself.
For some Office installations, installing the Office Converter Pack will solve this problem. You can download the converter pack from Microsoft or a zipped version here.

My prices are not printing or cannot be adjusted using the Markup/Discount feature.
You need to define which columns will be used for prices. On the Customize form, there is a sample layout depicting the options you have selected. In addition to selecting the number of columns in the Detail Table, you can select whether they are formatted for text or prices. The columns in the sample layout will display either "ABC" or "0.00" depending on your selection. Click the "Text/Price" button and then click on the last column that you want to be formatted for text. All the columns to the right of this one will now display "0.00" to indicate they are formatted for prices.

On the Printing Menu, there is a Markup/Discount value option. In versions prior to 6.14, if this field is left blank, the prices may not print. Type "0" in this field to print prices as they have been entered.
